I heard this album believe it or not in Switzerland. I had a traditional Country band there and my steel guitar player, who couldn't speak a word of English, had this. I don't know how he got it, except that someone gave him a copy because of the prominent Don Helms arrangements on it.

I love the stories they tell on this album and the fact that it was them, Hank's old band, that told them. Not critics, not reporters, his old band, sharing with us, the fans that still love him. They also sang some words to some of his songs, verses, I have never heard anywhere else. And the stories behind the songs, the way Hank wrote them, where they were when he did so. Etc. It don't get better than this.

I later met Don Helms and Jerry Rivers. I had seen them play before with Hank Williams Jr., then again with his daughter Jett. We talked about this album. It was like hearing stories again from my father about World War II or something. First hand accounts that you just don't get anywhere else but from the people that were there. Whether or not a country boy can survive in this increasingly complex world remains an open question. But there's absolutely no doubt that "A Country Boy Can Survive" will endure.
